I’m Raynor Arkenbout, born and raised in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

I’ve loved films and video games since the day I could stare at a television set and hold a controller. I’m a storyteller at heart. For me, fiction is the most powerful tool of humankind that help us reflect and make (a moral) sense of the real world. That makes storytelling as important as eating, sleeping, and breathing, in my opinion.

 

Good stories know how to get under the skin of their audience. They have the power to push feelings up toward the surface, feelings that can confront, conflict, comfort, or captivate them. But at the very least, a story should be entertaining. Like Mary Poppins once said: "A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down." To marry the concepts of spectacular entertainment, intellectual themes, and emotional universalities; is the sweet spot of great storytelling to me.

 

That is, I believe, my vocation and responsibility. To find those themes and ideas that resonate and hit an authentic, emotional core that can be universally felt. Stories that resonate within the heart as something personal to as many people as possible. To find ways to communicate and expose truths about the world through parables and empathy. To find themes and premises that feel timeless yet contemporary. And to write, design and craft it all to such a high standard that viewers truly absorb and feel what needs to be felt.
